Build n Blaze CEO and internationally recognized standards authority, Radia Funna, has stepped into a pivotal leadership role at the IEEE Standards Association, as Chair of the AI Measurement Metrics and Methodologies group for the groundbreaking IEEE P7100 Standard for Measurement of Environmental Impacts of Artificial Intelligence Systems.

Leading the Charge on Critical AI Environmental Measurement

Funna's new position comes as the IEEE P7100 working group tackles one of the most pressing challenges in AI governance: Establishing standardized measurements for Artificial Intelligence's rapidly growing environmental impact. The urgency of this work is underscored by the exponential growth in AI compute requirements and associated energy consumption, carbon emissions, and water usage across the industry.

The group's work under Funna's leadership represents a pioneering effort to establish the first global technical standard for AI environmental measurement, positioning its technical methodologies as critical infrastructure for responsible AI development. It is responsible for identifying methodologies that can accurately separate AI-specific compute requirements from general-purpose data center operations—a technical challenge that has significant implications for environmental reporting accuracy.
